Contraception and Sexual Health

Contraception

We are able to offer full contraception services in the practice:

  • General contraceptive advice is available from all of our doctors and nurses.
  • Advice on Emergency Contraception including prescriptions for the emergency pill and referral for the emergency coil.
  • All Long Acting Reversible methods of contraception (LARCs). Including:
  • Prescribing and administering the ‘Depo’ contraception injection. (3 monthly injections).
  • Fitting of the Intrauterine Device, IUD, (the coil) or Mirena IUS (can last 10 or 5 years).
  • Sub-dermal contraceptive implants – last 3 years.

Please make an appointment with a doctor if you wish to discuss any of the above. NB only Dr Ridley fits and removes coils and implants, so if you wish to discuss one of these methods then please book with her for an initial discussion.

Sexual Health

Chlamydia Screening

If you have no symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection, but are sexually active and aged between 16 – 25, then you are entitled to a free annual chlamydia screen. You can ask your doctor or nurse about this, or simply ask at reception for a screening kit.

If you think you may have a sexually transmitted infection (STI, STD), then you ideally need to be seen in one of Nottingham’s many GUM clinics, or sexual health clinics (telephone 0115 9627744), but our doctors and nurses are happy to help if required.
